QUESTION OF THE MONTH :: Members share

Each month members are asked a question concerning our theme, news, or current events.
Members were asked:  Tell us about your need for batteries and how you have curbed your usage. Do you use solar gadgets at all? If so, which ones work well for you and why?

We have a small solar charger that charges 4 AA batteries at a time. For backup we have a small rechargeable plug in unit that does the same amount. Both work well and it does cut down on purchasing batteries and creating trash.

I don't really use a lot of batteries, and what I do use, mostly AA and AAA I have switched to rechargeable, which really cuts down on consumption. The only solar gadget I have so far, is an electric charger for my electric fencing. I love it, works like a charm. Really easy to use
and move around.

I use my camera a lot for my business.  Even though I used rechargeable batteries, I was always frustrated how short the charge was and how expensive it is to buy new ones.  A few months ago I bought a new camera (which I love) and no more worries about batteries!  It has a rechargeable lithium ion battery, which gets charged while it’s in the camera, using an adapter and any electrical outlet.  I have only had to recharge my camera once in 3 months of constant usage!

We don't really use much in the way of batteries. The camera is really the only gadget we use on a regular basis that has a battery, and it is rechargeable. We don't have any solar gadgets, but we do have one of those hand-crank radios that we use when the power goes out!

I use rechargable batteries now. I looked at my usage and started by switching the most changed first...which was my camera. While I did that, I tried to convert over many other items that also used the same size...and I had to get a larger charger. So far I have had good success with the rechargables. As for solar...I would like to look into that.
